National Priorities Nonviolence: In the midst of a culture of violence, MFSA is creating a culture of peace through non-violence training and action in collaboration with the Fellowship of Reconciliation. Palestine and Israel: MFSA is working in partnership with MENUM (Middle East Network of United Methodists) to promote a just and lasting settlement to the conflict in the Middle East through nonviolent action. MFSA has requested UM Agencies to explore possibilities for selective divestment.. Dismantling Racism: In working against racism and white privilege, MFSA supports the work of the General Commission on Religion and Race, and has joined other progressive UM groups to explore the intersections of race, gender, sexual orientation and class. Monitoring the Conservative Renewal Movements in the UMC: MFSA raises awareness around activities of the conservative renewal movements within the UMC, some of which are actively pursuing the option of a schism within the UMC. Supporting the rights of full inclusion of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender persons in the church and society: With the resources of programs like the Reconciling Ministries Network, Affirmation, and Church Within a Church, MFSA is committed to working for inclusivity. Progressive Coalition Building: MFSA is strengthening and building a progressive movement of United Methodists through Voices of Faith conferences, developing a network of clergy and laity in annual conferences, and organizing at Annual, Jurisdictional, and General Conferences. Throughout our nearly 100 year history, MFSA has worked on several justice issues that we continue to monitor today including: civil rights, restorative justice, the rights of women and workers, and reproductive choice. |
